Well first Id say, I have had no more memory lapse scariness since last week. Hooray!
It was nice to go back to band practice the next monday to prep for the show at the Fineline and nail the songs.
Speaking of the Fineline, Geoff got an awesome message from the booking guy there:

"Just wanted to say again, great job last night! Not often do I have a band that kicks the promo in the ass as much as you did, and plays a solid and entertaining show, and is a tight band. I'm not into the harder rock stuff very much, but you guys rocked the crap out of it and I was impressed. So....well done my man, well done!"

We get tighter and tighter with every show. The momentum builds! WEEE!

Also, I discovered Coffee. I like.

weekend and stuff [May. 11th, 2009|01:28 am]
Dave Erickson
This weekend was most likely the most odd one I've had in quite a while.
Im sitting here, listening to Devin Townsend's "Hummer"(with out a doubt the best ambient album I have ever heard/experienced) and its helping me get a grasp on just what happened.

I went to work on Friday as normal, but something was different. I seemed to suffer a complete detachment from reality. I don't think I was actually working, I ended up just wandering around.

Problem is, my memory is very sketchy on this. I remember one of my bosses, the "Program Director" seeing me and telling me I looked sick. A while later she saw me again and asked "Why haven't you gone home yet?" My response, of course: "Umm....because I'm working?" From there I was brought upstairs to the Admin office. The Nurse LPN was also there. I don't really remember what was said. I was very aware of a deep caring from all 3 in the room for my well being.
Apparently I looked drunk, of course I wasn't, as I don't drink. It was all totally surreal. I had totally left reality. Well after some inaudible conversation, my boss the program director DROVE ME HOME! It was all very odd. As soon as I got home, I fell asleep, probably for close to 5 hours. I thought I was perhaps only overtired. But then, at band practice that night, I found my self unable to play anything that normally I had no troubles with.

I don't remember much beyond that. No, there were no drugs involved. I really have no clue what happened to me. My boss suggested that maybe I had a minor seizure or something. I guess its possible. I really have no idea.
I am going to try to make a doctor appt tomorrow. Its really scary. I know first hand what Alzeimer's must be like..a total nightmare. The last time they did xrays of my head they found nothing conclusive.
Its truly terrifying to lose blocks of time like that..whole conversations where I was seemingly there and involved, but have no memory of the event. I've asked my wife the same questions at least 5 times and told her about things I have already told her many more times.

I don't know whats happening to me. I wanted to document this so that I can remember if I lose any more time.

Incredibly frightening, I hope something isn't seriously wrong. Its like pieces of my existence falling into a void.

This picture makes crook my head to the side and say... "huh?" This borders on Black metal for me. If only they were covered in ridiculous makeup and were sporting 10 inch spikes!

This weekend was a quite wonderful escape from the stress that is my life these days.
Friday we saw Watchmen at Imax, which was really fun. I still haven't made up my mind whether I really liked the movie or not, I'm gonna see it again. I enjoyed it, but I guess I wanted more. More of what, I dunno. Oh well. So it goes.

After the show we headed over to Famous Dave's for some delicious BBQ. From there, on to Club Underwear to catch the show. I gave Adam a nice giant phallic squash in response to the banana he gave me for my birthday a while back. I can only hope i get a sweet piece of produce from him when my birthday comes around again this year!

CLUB UNDERWEAR:
Thosquanta sounded pretty good, but I would appreciate more headbanging from the band, please. It amuses me to watch Adam play solos when he vilifies them so much. Hahah.
The next band was OK, kinda mediocre, I guess. Something was missing, just couldn't put my finger on it. As I told Jenny "I dont know, it's just missing something awesome"

The next band(sorry i don't remember their names)Was better, They had some pretty funny songs about being gothy and vampires and stuff, and the guitar player was shredding like a MOFO, but it seemed like towards the end of their set the music got really melodramatic and the gag ran thin.

Finally IKKI/UCKF played and they kicked ass. We caught half the set before retreating from the club due to exaustion, but it was very good. I like the new songs a lot! Great job guys!

Got together with Geoff on Saturday to go over guitar stuff(it was going to be a band rehearsal but no one else showed!) Damn that guy sure knows how to get the best out of you. I can't wait to work with him recording my own stuff. I feel confidant that after only the short time playing guitar, Ill be ready for the first OBCT show comin up in only a couple weeks!!

In other news, i decided to step down from working on the soundtrack stuff. I have too much else going on right now, and I feel like I'm slowing the project down, I have a lot of stress going on in my life and its affecting my ability to channel the muse to write what i need to write. Its harder then you think, writing music to someone else's vision. Maybe if I knew the guy better it would be different, but I think this whole thing was a great opprotunity at the wrong time. Once i get my "studio" set up to record live instruments and have everything sounding better, I ought to be more prepared. It was a lot of fun, and some of my music that I did do will still appear in the film so that should be fun to hear when I see the finished product.

Thats all for now!

Ready for the weekend [Mar. 5th, 2009|05:46 pm]

I can't say how happy I am that tomorrow is Friday. This week has been really crappy, lots of shit on top of shit events happening, plus I seem to be suffering from some sort of chronic fatigue. I feel tired all the time, it really blows. Got a doctor's appt next Wednesday and hopefully something will come of that.

Tomorrow will be a lot of fun. Going to see Watchmen at IMAX, then its off to see the band with 2 names. Its a welcome break from all the stress I've been working through the last few weeks.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, the movie "Midnight Meat Train" is fucking awesome. I've been a Clive Barker fan since Hellraiser, and this movie lived up to what I hoped it would be when I saw the previews. If you like horror films with TONS of blood, spraying everywhere and aren't derivative pieces of crap, you will love this movie. GOOD "horror" films are so few and far between, its awesome when you find a great one.

I am really excited for Paganfest 2009!
May 8th at Station 4!

Watch this video. It is so funny.

Lyrics:
There's men, underground
Who have never seen the sun
But they really know how to party
Little men from underground
Who have never seen the sun
But the really know how to party

[Chorus:]
The rise their wooden pints and they yoik and sing
And they fight and dance 'till the morning

Tables full, reindeer meat
And the camp fire shines and the brick walls are full candles
Tables full, wooden pints
They don't care about their sins
They just wanna get drunk and party

[Chorus]

Long war is now past
Only good men have lasted
They need women, meat, beer and rom
Fight battle full of blood no thoughts about god they just slaughtered killed and tormented

Dream Theater working on their 10th studio album!

"Prog Metal veterans Dream Theater are currently wrapping up work
on their tenth studio album. The band commenced work on the
as-yet untitled album - their second for Roadrunner Records,
following up 2007's Systematic Chaos - in October of last year.

Drummer Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci are once again
producing the CD, while engineer Paul Northfield will mix the
record. Roadrunner plans to release the album in early summer
upon which the band will immediately embark on a world tour
to support it."

Friday I will get a "professional opinion" of what is wrong with me.

But then again, maybe there isnt anything wrong with me.

I just want my life back.

"If there isn't anything wrong with me....maybe there is something wrong with the universe!"
